Earth Day & Air Pollution in London

Today (22nd April) is Earth day. It was created to raise awareness for the surroundings and natural environment. Many millions of people across the world have pledged to be a little more Eco-friendly and see today as a day to improve the environment by reducing waste and toxic chemicals.

However, quite ironically yesterday it was announced that air pollution in London was at it's highest since 2003. It has exceeded the legal EU limit Of poor air quality levels for less than 35 days in the year and there are health threatening air particles that are be bad for people with asthma. The suspects for this poor air quality could be traffic or winds from Europe. Long term exposure to polluted air has caused over 4000 early deaths in London. A green party member said there is need for for 'urgent targeted measures". Despite this the new London buses, commissioned by Boris Johnson, are 40% less polluting.
